Staying healthy is not exactly just about exercise so here are 6 tips to stay healthy throughout this upcoming year.  Disclaimer – always check with your doctor before going on any diet or exercise routine.

H: Hydrate –  Drinking half of your body weight in ounces is the recommended amount of water to drink on a daily basis.  Drinking water also helps you feel “full” and control calories.  Other benefits include helping to energize muscles, helps your kidneys, and keeps your skin looking good.

E: Exercise – Movement is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle.  Exercise helps move bacteria from your lungs.  Walking is a perfect exercise to keep your immune system strong.  There are many apps that help with your exercise routine.  I started using one called FitStar which is part of my FitBit I use to monitor how many steps I take each day!

A: Antioxidants: Consuming a diet full of rich fruits and vegetables increases our antioxidants naturally. This strengthens our immunity.  So think broccoli, carrots, spinach, kale, cauliflower, blueberries…all colors of the rainbow! Taking some vitamins such as Vitamin D, C and A are also beneficial.

L: Lean Protein: Protein is a nutrient that helps you feel “satisfied” longer.  Include lean meats, eggs, cottage cheese, lentils, beans, Greek yogurt, peanut butter in your eating plan.

T: Take out the Sugar: Sugar is not your immune system’s friend!  I have read that it can increase inflammation in your body and delay healing processes.  Choose unsweetened Iced tea instead of the southern favorite, sweet tea!

H: Healthy Snacks: Keep healthy items available for snack time!  Choose foods low in calorie and high in protein to promote satisfaction. Ideas would be fruits, nuts, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, string cheese, and raw veggies.

This is an easy plan to stay healthy all year round and these are tips that can be easily incorporated into your everyday lifestyle!
