It is halfway through February already and the question is: Are you still on track with the goals and resolutions you made? Not sure I really solidified specific goals but there are always those that seem to be highlighted each year by people such as eating healthier and exercising more. To be honest, these goals are always in the back of my mind but this year I also reflected on other goals that I wish to accomplish. Many reasons contributed to my mindset for this but I want to take time to better my relationships with people. This involves setting time aside to relax, stop my “work” and “to do” list, and focus on people. This is a struggle, honestly; not because I don’t enjoy free time and people, but there seems to be an never ending list of things to do and my nature is to be task oriented. I have been doing much better in this area. I have taken time to attend some college basketball games with family, played more games, been reading more books, and doing word searches! I purposely take time from my day to try to read at least one chapter from a book or to glance through a magazine. A hobby I recently started was doing word searches…I had forgotten how much I enjoyed these! These periods of slowing down have helped me take the time to enjoy the people around me. Not only have I enjoyed a quiet/down time for myself but not feeling obligated to finish my work list has allowed me to enjoy special moments with my family and friends. These relationships are ultimately much more important. So challenge yourself to take time to be with the special people in your life and share great times together and have special memories.
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. – Mark Twain
