Rhubarb – Is it a Fruit?

Love this time of year when the vegetable gardens are beginning to produce some early produce – asparagus, early lettuce, rhubarb and soon strawberries!  Rhubarb is one of those mysteries – is it a fruit or a vegetable? Because most of the recipes are dessert related, it is assumed rhubarb is a fruit but it really is a vegetable!  Non the less, I love the many options for preparing rhubarb – from refreshing drinks, pies, puddings, muffins, and crumbles.  If you check out the recipes on the website, there is a new crumble recipe posted that was recently tried and I am looking forward to sipping some rhubarb drink on these upcoming warmer days. Kitchen Kettle Village is hosting the annual Rhubarb Festival this weekend which is always a great destination. They have been celebrating rhubarb for over 30 years at this outdoor festival with activities for the young and old.  You can even try some of the homemade rhubarb desserts from the Baking Contest they hold. Join the fun at this two day event on May 19 & 20 at Kitchen Kettle in Intercourse – just a quick 15 minutes from our Bed and Breakfast!
