Start your day with a Wonderful Breakfast…
Relax with your early morning cup of coffee and watch the sun rise. The Flavia coffee maker is available for coffee or hot water for tea or hot chocolate before breakfast or when you return from your day of exploring and sightseeing.
Guests enjoy a full hot breakfast that is served at 8:30AM each morning in our Gathering Room, an airy commodious room with a magnificent vaulted ceiling and an expanse of windows overlooking the countryside. A three-course meal is served with fruit juice, blended coffee, or specialty teas for beginners. A seasonal fruit dish, followed by a hot entrée of either something savory or sweet, along with ham, bacon, or sausage to compliment the meal. The menu of the day might include Puffy Dutch Pancakes, Vegetable Quiche, Asparagus Bundles or Cornflake-Crusted French Toast with caramel sauce. We use fresh eggs, local produce and vegetables from our garden. Each breakfast concludes with a pastry of muffins, coffeecake or quick bread made from scratch. Cold cereal or homemade granola is always available.
A recipe from our breakfast file…
- DATE NUT BREAD
- 2 cups chopped dates
- 1 ½ cups boiling water
- Pour water over dates and let stand.
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- ½ tsp. salt
- 1 cup butter
- Beat the above 5 ingredients together.
- 1 cup nuts
- 3 cups flour
- ½ tsp. cinnamon
- ¼ tsp. nutmeg
- 2 tsp. baking soda
- Add to the creamed mixture and stir till blended. Add the date mixture. Pour into a 13x9" pan. Bake at 350 for about 45 minutes.
